"The teacher asked me to stand up and tell the class something about my self." - Raniaa, 14 The teacher had never seen me give a presentation before so I wasn't sure what to expect. As soon as I started talking, though, it became clear that this was going to be one of the best presentations ever. I finished by inviting everyone in the class to ask questions and share any thoughts they might have with me afterwards. Afterward we went outside where several people stopped us and complimented me on what an inspiring speaker I was. I told them that I was just doing what comes naturally. I love speaking in front of other people so should they ever have the chance to speak in front of me, I feel confident about doing the same for them. - Karan, 12 "I've been asked to give a speech at school once before but because it was an assembly, the room was too small. I've always wanted to be able to speak freely in front of large groups though so this has been one of the best things that has happened to me." - Jadzia, 13 Many students have also reported having their presentations or speeches posted on YouTube. One example is a speech given by a student on the topic of the Terracotta Army. A link to the video has also been posted on the Terracotta Army Wikipedia page. "I never thought I had an interesting story about my life so it was hard for me to understand what my presentation was going to be about." - Lauren, 13 "This week, however, during music class, I realized that I actually do have something worthwhile to say. My story is not unlike anyone else's though which makes it all the more special." - Lauren, 13 The content of her speech tended to vary but included details about her family tree , places where they had lived and her thoughts on their experience in each place. - Lauren, 13 "I've always felt left out of conversations about my family because I know next to nothing about them. When I told Mrs. B that it's been very hard for me to explain that, she advised me to incorporate those feelings into my presentation." - Lauren, 13 In this manner, students at the school find themselves engaged in a learning experience that is both fun and enriching. The KISI KISI Awards Ceremony is a one-hour affair where a variety of awards are presented. The ceremony often features short skits and speeches by the students themselves as well as performances from various gifted students from other classes. "I really liked playing the piano. I always wanted to play it as a child but I never had the opportunity to learn. Now that I'm studying at KISI KISI, I feel like I have so many more opportunities than other students and so many more chances to grow and learn new things." - Evelien Linn, 12 "Since we started this program, we've been able to work together and learn from each other. It's been great!" - Maricruz Torres, 14 "Since joining KISI KISI, however, my goal has changed from just getting through high school to preparing myself for college. eccc085e13
